Focus and Scope

The International Journal of Pedagogies and Learning (ISSN 1833-4105) is an international, scholarly, independently and anonymously peer-reviewed journal that focuses on issues and trends in pedagogies and learning in local and global contexts and leadership in educational research.

The aim of the journal is to publish high quality research that focuses on the essence of pedagogy and learning and related issues and trends. While stimulating discussion of authoritative and emerging pedagogies and forms of learning, it will encourage the sharing of ideas that contribute to the transformation of contemporary conceptions of pedagogy and learning in order to reshape and revitalise educational provision from the perspectives of educators and learners alike. These ideas are intended to be simultaneously anchored in local, regional and national contexts and to be international and transnational in intent and impact.

Peer Review Process

Each article is refereed by two anonymous peer reviewers who do not know the author's(s') identity(ies) or the identity of the other reviewer.

The reviewers will assess each article against the following criteria:

  • consistency of topic with journal title
  • clarity of focus of introduction
  • strength of literature review
  • strength of conceptual framework
  • strength of research design/methodological framework
  • strength of data analysis
  • strength of implications section
  • clarity of focus of conclusion
  • logic of, and support for, argument
  • contribution to knowledge
  • clarity of expression
  • accuracy and completeness of referencing.

Each peer reviewer will assign a recommendation to the article:

  • Accept
  • Accept with revisions
  • Resubmit for review
  • Resubmit elsewhere
  • Decline.

It is anticipated that if the peer reviewer does not accept the article outright he or she will provide comments justifying his or her recommendation and giving feedback about the article.

The Editors will collate the peer reviewers' comments and recommendations and communicate them to the author(s), as well as any required changes in the case of that being the agreed recommendation about the article.

In the case of inconsistent recommendations by the two peer reviewers, the Editors will solicit a review of the article by a third anonymous peer reviewer. They will base their final decision about the article's acceptance for publication or otherwise on the majority view among the three peer reviewers.

Authors will be notified by email of the outcome of the process. Reviewers may give conditional acceptance of a paper, requesting authors to make changes. Such requests and authors' responses are facilitated by Editors to maintain author/peer reviewer anonymity.
